WIR Campaign: Cover The Butt

Just yesterday I went out wearing a cropped top (with something underneath of course but tucked in) and a maxi skirt. The shape of my rear was very visible for everyone to see, yet I'd placed people's views and perception way at the back of my mind. I know I am capable to think rationally yet my actions say otherwise. I was weak and absentmindedly succumbed to the world of fashion which had no one forcing me to dress a certain way. Oh dear God, please don't let me be stuck in reverse. I will try harder next time...

I love Tumblr, because the people I follow post such beautiful and inspiring pictures that I spend hours on it every day. The site is definitely my favourite among other social networking websites like FB and Twitter. Here are some fashionable pictures I saved and looooveee.
Okay actually this picture is of a scene from one my favourite tv shows of all time, Boy Meets World. But what attracts me to it, fashion-wise, is that 90's fashion was so so much simpler and I miss it. Curduroy pants, jeans, plaid shirts, sweaters and sneakers and people won't look at you like you've no fashion sense whatsoever.
Throw out the mundane black blazer and pants, put on some brown ones and you'll look totally spiffy! Love this. If I were an interviewer, I'd hire you in an instant :p
I'm all in for the baseball jacket craze right now. My mum has one from her Uni days in the States but it's a bit bulky and needs major dry-cleaning. Scoured for it online and got myself a look-alike :)
A bit unclear due to me sitting down..
This would be my uniform if Malaysia was a four-season country. Looks so comfy! I guess that's my basic need in clothes; comfort.
A backless dress is always so much sexier than a plunging neckline. The colours are my favourite too; grey and dusty, coral pink.
I've run in into a few leopard-print pants but because my lower body is a bit on the voluptuous side, I dare not to wear one. I'll definitely look tacky :/ But this woman looks lovely doesn't she? The cream shirt compliments the pants perfectly.
What my future son will dress like.
I've always persuaded Amer to wear a sweater over his shirt and tie but a reluctant look is always given. I can perfectly understand why (our scorching weather) but this look is so, so handsome isn't it? I'd melt at the sight of any man sporting it.
I'm on the prowl for the perfect psychedelic, starry-printed skirt or pair of pants. I've come across a pair of bright mix of blue, red, yellow and green pants from Calaqisya at ChicPop but my sisters gave me a no-never-no look. Very obvious that I'm the most adventurous one among us four :p

Currently in love with long, flowy materials. I finally got my hands on a black, long-sleeved maxi dress, very similar to Maysaa's but the thing is, I don't know where to wear it to! I mean, on a regular outing, wearing that would be a bit funny considering the normal occasion. I've been experimenting with it to make it look less formal and polished; donning it with a denim vest, espadrilles, flats and they still look "too nice" to be worn to the mall! Now I can either, a) just wear it without thinking too much or b) experiment harder!

I've always loved the colour red on lips. But I've never dared to try though. It's so out there for a timid me. The farthest look I went for was this:
Okay it isn't so clear for you to see, but I wore a dark berry lip colour and lined my eyes black. For me, this is going all out, since the usual "rule" is light lips, dark eyes or vice versa.
And also, I'm very much into high waisted pants. Not because it's the current in thing, but because I feel it is the one garment that best hide my tummy and bum..
..and that makes me feel good about myself. What's more, it isn't tight fitting, the one quality about clothing I am currently and slowly deducting from my wardrobe.

#22 Where can I get affordable, stylish clothes without breaking the bank?
Easy peasy. Let me share some tips with you:
- Hand-me-downs.
Raid the closets of your mothers, aunts and grandmothers (and fathers too!). Those are the ultimate jackpot. As for me, my mum gave away her Levi's denim shirt, a New York sweater back when she was a student in the States, Chicago t-shirt, and blue M&S sweater while my dad gave away most of his jerseys that he doesn't fit anymore. I was a happy bean :)
2. Bazaars/ Events
There are loads of interesting events and bazaars held each year, like the recent Chic Pop and KLPac's Open Day. They don't only offer you clothes, but other things as well, such as household items, art and music-related stuff. Also, most of the time, the items are one of a kind! But you need not go to major ones. There are some weekly bazaars held in shopping malls, like Subang Parade and the flea market at The Curve. It gives you the freedom to ponder upon an item for a week and come back the next.
3. Online!
This is my favourite, as some of you may know *wink* but I don't recommend it if you have low willpower such as myself.. Ordering things online may get out of hand and before you know it, you would have ordered up to 10 items! Ah-ha, but every problem has its solution. To find bargains online, one could/ should/ must opt for blogshops that sell preloved/ secondhand items. Before you cringe over the thought of wearing someone else's leftovers, weigh the pros and cons first. There are lots of trustworthy preloved blogshops out there that will let customers know the condition of their items. Some of them may even be brand new but are sold cheaper than the original prices. What I do with WJMJ is that I will state its grade, whether it is an A+, an A or a B. Never will I sell something below that. Proper preloved blogshops will also show you pictures and occasionally, if there are tears or stains anywhere, they will definitely let you know. You'd see if that blogshop is legit based on the customers and sales they make. But you really got to trust the seller. If you don't, you'll get nervous and worry of being cheated so I suggest you choose option #1 or #2 or #4.
4. Your local supermarket/ mall
While I was searching for a parking space with my sister at the Giant supermarket in Section 13, an array of stalls/ booths were evident outside the building as per usual but suddenly I saw a half mannequin wearing a black maxi skirt, which suspiciously looked about the same kind with the ones you see online (I didn't know how I conveniently got super vision at the time but I just knew it was of the same ones). And I was right. After parking the car, me and my sister went straight to the said booth and examined the clothes. To my pleasant surprise, not only maxi skirts that were sold, but harem pants too! (I've been searching around for one). This is the best part. Do you know how much it cost? Both of them go for RM29 each! And I bought my first maxi skirt for RM50 online.. About RM21 difference.
The material was the same, though the cut was a bit different but it's still a maxi skirt nonetheless and which I believe most girls are looking for right now. My sis bought the skirt, I bought the pants. And to think our purpose of going to Giant was to only buy frozen yogurt. Bliss..

This architecture lecturer is so undeniably beautiful! And her outfits are amazing. She had mentioned that she wasn't tall, but clearly she could pull off the maxi looks perfectly. Sigh, I could just gaze at these pictures all day long.. One of her statements on her FB is a reminder that hijabis are to cover their chest and not wear leggings. This hit me hard, because even though I don the hijab, it doesn't cover my chest that well and my favourite kind of bottom to wear is skinny jeans..
It's quite hard for me to switch hijabs because I'm so used to the syria kind. Not to mention it's so easy and convenient to wear when you're late for classes and such. I've worn selendang a couple of times before but those were during special occasions, times when I felt I need to dress up more. I find it so hard to maintain though, every five minutes or so, my hands will be adjusting it here and there and I envy girls (including my younger sister) who seem to wear it so easily and it won't move around. I've never told anyone this but aside from wanting to make money, one of the reasons I'm selling my used clothes online is because it's an opportunity for me to buy more modest clothes. I've outgrown lots of them (yeah, I had this thought that I will forever remain in this size) so it's high time for me to buy new clothes that are fashionable yet reasonable and close to my values and beliefs.
It's very challenging nowadays with various styles coming in and out and for a person like me who adores fashion, would want to have a taste of it even though not all of them are designed for muslimahs. However, a good example like Aishah Amin here makes it possible to look current and chic with the right amount of modesty. Thank you, I accept your challenge!
One thing that I'm doing now is to ditch clothes with 3/4 sleeves and buy proper long-sleeved ones. So, look out for them to be posted on WJMJ! And wish me luck on this personal challenge of mine! :)
Leopardized
I'm not one to know much about fashion, though I do check out what's in and hot occasionally to see what the fashion gurus have created or predicted on what style/ pattern will come out next. It's fun and it doesn't hurt to know and learn, aside from educational pedagogy (Teslians learn this, blah) or boring methodological terms. we learn in college/ school. Fashion is a whole different thing, and can definitely keep my peepers open if lecturers suddenly bring out the topic in class. Anyway, speaking about patterns, there's one that was considered to be tacky once upon a time, but is now seen as the hottest thing to wear and that is: LEOPARD PRINT!
People close to me know how much I insanely love it. Any leopard printed item will catch my eye in a flash. I just think it sums up classy chic (if worn accordingly), with a bit of an edge. Too much can make one look trashy :s But isn't my former opinion convenient? Since I'm still a student and can't afford to buy much, I start to make this penchant of mine a collection. So far, I've collected 7 items and I just realized it today that almost all of them are bought overseas. Does this show that stores in Malaysia do not sell that many (affordable) leopard printed clothing? I think so..Frankly, I've only found such items online and hardly offline. There are some but they don't vary much and are pricey for my liking. :s

Finally! My favourite actress, Alexis Bledel was featured in WhoWhatWear, under the style spotlight section. I love her style; it's chic, fresh and feminine without being over-the-top girly and fussy. Though it's not really my personal style, I just can't stop looking at her outfit choices. But needless to say, she doesn't actually need beautiful clothes. That pair of ocean-blue eyes and porcelain skin and now, strawberry-blond hair (gorgeous!) have always taken her level of "loveliness" up a gazillion notches each time :)
Uniqlo
I've been meaning to write a post on Uniqlo and post pictures but I couldn't find the USB cable to the camera till my sister came to the rescue and gave me hers. So the famous Japanese brand finally arrived here in Malaysia and me and Amer had the chance to go there on its opening day! We contemplated whether to commute using public transportation (i.e: the LRT then the monorail) or by car and decided to choose the latter. It seemed more adventurous that way :P Besides, public transport means a lot of people scurrying around and pushing you to get their way and that will definitely cause irritation and even waiting for the train's arrival sounded so tedious to do for impatient me that day he he.
Since we both were so not familiar with the roads in KL, (and the fact that the last time I went to Bukit Bintang was ages ago), we missed a few turns and had to do a u-turn and finally found our way to the mall. And man, the crowd was huge! There were some Hitz.Fm troopers (is that what they are called? Not so sure, sorry) outside the store and I was excited to snag some goodies. But I didn't get to do that though because, you will know why later.
Even though we'd arrived safely and me and Amer were like, "oh yeah, we did it! Google Map, thank you, victory dance, etc", to find a parking spot was another thing. I didn't know the mall was small, something more or less like Empire, hence the parking spaces were limited. We had to wait for people to go out so we could have their space. And it took about half an hour or so and I got so agitated that Amer had to calm me down. I mean, we were already there and there's no parking?? I racked my brains out on managing the directions (I seriously can't read maps) and being the lousy navigator and was all high-fiving with Amer when we arrived but there's no space for Jackie?? You got to be kidding meeee. Oh Jackie's Amer's car btw. (yes, we nickname our cars :p)
So when we finally found one, apa lagi? Kami bergegas lah. And to my surprise, which when I think back now, was supposedly expected, there was a really, really, really long line with massive amount of people. And we thought, "erm orang tak kerja ke hari ni?" since it was a working day. But I really do think there were some people who literally took MC or EL just to go to Uniqlo's opening day. Oh btw, we arrived at 12 something so we lost the chance of receiving the Uniqlo bag for free. However, they stated that if we spend more than RM200, we'll get it and indeed, we did! But man, we stood in line for 2 hours, yes 2 looong hours. The first hour went like a breeze since the line was moving quite swiftly but the next hour was excruciating. My legs hurt and I kept shifting my weight leading to foot cramps.
Once we got in, it was like "okay, you go find what you want, and I'll find my stuff and we'll meet here once we've finished okay" so off we went looking for stuff separately. The reason we had to do it was because it was hard to shop together and having to wait for each other, since it was even hard to walk around without finding yourself inches away from another person. Yes, it was that many. We shopped for 2 hours as well. Called it a day and off we went home as two happy and satisfied shoppers :)

I was very happy indeed. Bought some stuff for me mum and dad. A fleece jacket for her and a polo shirt for him. He liked it so much, he wore it the very next day! And the day after that and the day after that.. I really want to go there again, and maybe this time with girlfriends. I need stuff for winter (they sell really cute and practical winter clothes) for my trip to somewhereee in December! ;)
