nk's tip of the day

#22 Where can I get affordable, stylish clothes without breaking the bank?

Easy peasy. Let me share some tips with you:

  1. Hand-me-downs.
Raid the closets of your mothers, aunts and grandmothers (and fathers too!). Those are the ultimate jackpot. As for me, my mum gave away her Levi's denim shirt, a New York sweater back when she was a student in the States, Chicago t-shirt, and blue M&S sweater while my dad gave away most of his jerseys that he doesn't fit anymore. I was a happy bean :)

     2.  Bazaars/ Events

There are loads of interesting events and bazaars held each year, like the recent Chic Pop and KLPac's Open Day. They don't only offer you clothes, but other things as well, such as household items, art and music-related stuff. Also, most of the time, the items are one of a kind! But you need not go to major ones. There are some weekly bazaars held in shopping malls, like Subang Parade and the flea market at The Curve. It gives you the freedom to ponder upon an item for a week and come back the next.

     3.  Online!

This is my favourite, as some of you may know *wink* but I don't recommend it if you have low willpower such as myself.. Ordering things online may get out of hand and before you know it, you would have ordered up to 10 items! Ah-ha, but every problem has its solution. To find bargains online, one could/ should/ must opt for blogshops that sell preloved/ secondhand items. Before you cringe over the thought of wearing someone else's leftovers, weigh the pros and cons first. There are lots of trustworthy preloved blogshops out there that will let customers know the condition of their items. Some of them may even be brand new but are sold cheaper than the original prices. What I do with WJMJ is that I will state its grade, whether it is an A+, an A or a B. Never will I sell something below that. Proper preloved blogshops will also show you pictures and occasionally, if there are tears or stains anywhere, they will definitely let you know. You'd see if that blogshop is legit based on the customers and sales they make. But you really got to trust the seller. If you don't, you'll get nervous and worry of being cheated so I suggest you choose option #1 or #2 or #4.

    4.  Your local supermarket/ mall

While I was searching for a parking space with my sister at the Giant supermarket in Section 13, an array of stalls/ booths were evident outside the building as per usual but suddenly I saw a half mannequin wearing a black maxi skirt, which suspiciously looked about the same kind with the ones you see online (I didn't know how I conveniently got super vision at the time but I just knew it was of the same ones). And I was right. After parking the car, me and my sister went straight to the said booth and examined the clothes. To my pleasant surprise, not only maxi skirts that were sold, but harem pants too! (I've been searching around for one). This is the best part. Do you know how much it cost? Both of them go for RM29 each! And I bought my first maxi skirt for RM50 online.. About RM21 difference.

The material was the same, though the cut was a bit different but it's still a maxi skirt nonetheless and which I believe most girls are looking for right now. My sis bought the skirt, I bought the pants. And to think our purpose of going to Giant was to only buy frozen yogurt. Bliss..

Well, that's all I can think of right now. Hope you find the tips useful!

p.s: I want to put up pictures, but am too lazy to actually take them.. I myself love reading blogs with images so probably I'll edit this post in a day or two. Whenever I lose focus with work that is..

someone else's tip of the day

Got it here.

march '09

One thing I've noticed on my FeedJit thingamajig down there (which I personally think has little purpose but it's fun to know which country my visitors come from) is that my blog posts in March last year are almost always among the highest hits. So out of curiosity, I checked them out to see what's the fuss about. I do clearly remember significant events that happened that time but they were not good ones so that couldn't possibly be it..

I read each one and found the answer. There were two posts which I posted a lot of celebrity pictures; hence my blog would probably come out in their Google search of that certain celebrity. But other than finding my answer, I found something else that's interesting. There's a post where I mentioned Amer and we weren't together at the time. Okay I know this doesn't matter much, but I find it funny! Fate does work in strange ways. Here's an excerpt: (okay actually the whole post)

"Alhamdulillah, today's Bel meeting went well. Really well, as Mdm Marina said we were all good. "Improved a lot from the first meeting. I've nothing else to comment," she said, with a smile on her face. Yeay for us eight!

Thank you guys; Aint no Ruqqie yaw, Nasty Nadia, Aina Banana, Mary Celery, Yana Boleh, Far Inspirasi, and Mr. Nabil, for all the help, your sacrifices and the constructive criticisms and comments. It was nerve-wrecking but we've made it!

Yes yes I know, you're probably thinking, Ala meeting Bel je pun, but it really meant something to me.

Oh and Gamelan test went well too! I was practically the last one! hahaha but it helped because I wasn't so nervous. Though Amir and the boys just had to stay and watch. takpe takpe. hehe

Today made me a whole lot better since Monday. But honestly, these two happy events couldn't quite redeem the bad grade I got for my Literature paper. Oh Mr. Kieran, why why whyyyyyy?

hmph. :(
"

Hahahaha see? I even wrote his name with an "i", not "e" like I do now. Yeah, detik-detik permulaan bermula dengan kelas gamelan. And I initially didn't even think of joining! I was so sure to join Taekwondo, but changed my mind at the last minute. Tengok-tengok, dia pun join juga. And the rest is history :p

However, re-reading my March '09 posts doesn't exactly bring back fond memories. I clearly remember what happened during this month and to be honest, I live everyday trying to forget it. But I don't think about it so much anymore, because I am happy now and I think I will be for some time. I have some tips to share with you, and I haven't shared any in a looong time. Specially inspired by this post.

  1. If you are with a person who makes you feel bad about yourself (regardless a friend or a boyfriend/ girlfriend), who makes you do things you don't want to, please please please do not think think twice of walking away. He/ she is not worth your time.
  2. If you find it hard to do so, and start to blame yourself for the things you are not at fault, STOP THINKING AND JUST LEAVE. That person is slowly succeeding in emotionally abusing you.
  3. If you're hurt, think of it as a good hurt. Like ripping off a band-aid (Eustace from Narnia told us this).
  4. If he or she starts to beg and make promises, but hardly ever keep it, do not give them the benefit of the doubt because THEIR PROMISES ARE JUST LIES. They do it once, twice, thrice, and I am positive they will do it again. And if you're weak, you'll just stay and take the heat.
  5. If you find something/ someone who your heart says is sincere, is kind, don't be scared to take that leap of faith. How do you know this? You'll just know.
  6. If you have doubts in someone from the get-go, do not proceed. Slowly take a step back and walk the other way. You won't  lose anything.
  7. Emotional, verbal, physical and sexual abuses should not be experienced by anyone, especially not intelligent, vivacious girls who become weak and stupid because of ill-treatment by irresponsible people. It happened to me, and I can't let this happen to anyone, especially my family and friends.

Looking back at my old posts makes me feel like I've really changed. I don't write much on personal emotions anymore. I've tried to be distant in my posts as I possibly can and I think I've done it. But honestly, I don't feel like this blog is truly "me" of late. I'll try to make it "me" as possible, so that I don't feel like reading a stranger's blog. But it sure does evoke something in myself, retracing my steps here in Runningwithscissors tonight, because I think I've just shared with you the worst period of my life. And that my readers, has pretty much left me feeling naked. And so out there. And I am a very shy person. So...goodnight. Salam!

#19 Try not to conform, to follow what other people say, just because they think it's right, just because you want to please them, just because you want to be something, anything for all the wrong reasons. Don't you want to feel the least bit special? :)

nk's tip of the day

#18 You know a guy really loves you when,

he's willing enough and does not show any sign of fear at all to take pictures (yes note that, pictures) on a pelamin with you.

Thank you, I love you. :)

NK's tip of the day

#17 A sense of shyness in a relationship is somewhat necessary. Yes, being in one means accepting the good and bad traits but don't you think it's endearing? It's like the feeling when you had on the first date, when the truth is you've been together for years and years. It'll make everything special again.

:)

NK's tip of the day

#16 Cooling off after a fight is mucho important.
Sleeping it off is a good idea.
You'll feel better in the morning.
Dragging it further (or posting angry updates on FB) will not only make your friendship/ relationship worse, you'll look and feel silly. Trust me.

NK's tip of the day

#15 No matter how deeply in love you are with a person, never ever ever love them more than you love Him. For He who has brought you and the person together and the many more wonderful things He is willing to give you, as He is Al-Wahhab (The Giver of All), Al-'Alim (The Knower of All), Al-Karim (The Generous), Al-Hakim (The Perfectly Wise), and As-Samad (The Satisfier of All Needs).

#14
-Rilo Kiley, "More Adventurous"

Don't let failed relationships stop you from enjoying your life. Instead, be more adventurous. Take that dancing or rock-climbing lessons, wear the jeans he had said you looked fat in (when you personally didn't think so but listened to him anyways) and rock it, study harder to prove yourself that you are actually wonderfully intelligent and not a senseless pig as dubbed by the former boyfriend..

Or go date a rockstar! or an artsy intellectual, or a bookworm, someone who's the total opposite of you. Wouldn't it be intriguing yet exciting?

Life is short, so might as well live it to the fullest :)

NK's tip of the day

#13 If you're feeling sad and blue, or just not in the mood,
go to youtube and type "japanese marshmallow game" and you'll get this.

Or type "japanese don't laugh show"

It never fails to crack me up. Non-stop laughter guaranteed, even in the sulkiest of moods.

Enjoy! :)

NK's tip of the day

#12 Since sometimes your weight fluctuates every now and then,
and you find yourself struggling to fit into your new jeans
or your love handles can be seen bulging on the outsides of your shirt,
I'd say indulge in shoes!

Since we have long surpassed our growth spurt (yes kita mesti sedar bhw kita dah besar ye kwn2), I doubt our feet are getting any bigger. So yeah even if our tummy bloates like crazy during that time of the month or the fries we've eaten went straight to our thighs, they never found their way to our lovely feet that's for sure. Trust me, this thought will make you feel better. :D

p.s: ini ditujukan untuk lelaki juga. saya tidak bias. hee

#11 Remember Death always.

It'll keep you grounded.

NK's tip of the day

#10 For couples, instead of the usual dinner/lunch-and-movie date,
go bring your other half for a picnic and some kite-flying.
Very romantic and you'll learn a thing or two about each other.

p.s: My friend did this and I think it's really sweet.
They seemed to enjoy it too so it is romantically proven! :)

NK's tip of the day

#9 Bring your Ipod/mp3 player/boombox up onto the rooftop, listen to it and just lie down there. If you don't have one, you can bring out your inner diva and sing your heart out. A bottle of bubble solution is optional.

This is believed to make you happy and serene as proven by my sister. She's perky and bubbly all the time so I am certain that it works. Happy trying! :)

NK's tip of the day

#8 Sometimes, the best thing to do is to just shut up.
And listen.
That mouth of yours can bring disastrous results;
if you're not thinking straight.

NK's tip of the day

#7 Past problems, regrets, heartaches;
I took a deep breath and let it go.

You should do the same too.

NK's tip of the day

#6 Realize your mistakes.
Repent.
Forgive yourself.
Repair.
(can add your own ways here. if possible, legal ways only.)
Move on.

I know I make it sound so simple, but these are guidelines.
Some people have no directions at all, that's why I'm telling you all this.
Believe me, I was always stuck at step number 3.

NK's tip of the day

#5 Go hug someone today.
Go go shoo shoo.

NK's tip of the day

#4 Be thankful today. To your body.
Every part of it; your hands, your legs, feet, arms, etc for each of their usage.
For example, your legs for bringing you everywhere
and do things;
to school, to class, to pray and your hands
for letting you take down notes, to eat, to drive,
to salam your parents, you get the drill.
Oh don't forget your Creator. Say Alhamdulillah. wholeheartedly.
Now you're officially in love with yourself and God.

NK's tip of the day

#3 Getting angry over things will get you nowhere.
Except to the road of aging.
With all the frowning and the grunting that you do.
You know, when you're mad.
So stop. And smile.
