cured!

My right eye is completely healed, the handsome Dr. Chua said yesterday. It was the shortest medical appointment I've had my entire life. Seriously. It took only 5 minutes. Maybe less. And definitely, the most relieving.

If you're a loyal reader of this humble blog of mine, you have probably read this post before. Then you'll know the history of my eyes (eh ceh). But if you haven't, go read it first and then come back here ;)

Well, previously I would always go to this optometrist. It was convenient, and my family also purchased our glasses there. But after numerous disappointing meetings, them saying I still couldn't wear contacts week after week, my mother decided to take me to a new one, Optimax. Have you heard of it before? It's a very good eye specialist center, and definitely better than the one I always go to. The reason my mother brought me there was because the optometrist used to treat my late grandma for her cataract. Guess eye problems are in my genes..

The first time I went to see Dr. Chua, his verdict was that my right eye was extremely dry. I did an eye test, where they could find out the moisture level in my eyes, and my right peeper was way lower than the normal level. So he gave me this,

I even finished the box and had to buy a new one. There were lots of tubes in the box! That's how determined I was.

The next appointment was a bit different, because using a special camera, he took a picture of my eye zoomed up close. And I could literally see the dry spots on my cornea. Those were the reasons why I felt like taking my eyeball out and rigorously wash it whenever I inserted a contact lense in. Refresh Plus didn't help me, so Dr. Chua gave me something stronger. This,

The particular medication made me recall the times when I used to help put some in my Grandma's eyes. That made my eyes watery. I could somehow understand what she went through, but of course mine was nothing compared to her cataract. Hers hurt, whereby I don't feel a thing.

Weeks passed by, and by the third appointment and me feeling a positive change in my eye, I was hoping it would be the last. But no, those dry spots were really stubborn. So he gave me more. Two types to be exact.

So in 2 weeks' time, I had to put 3 kinds of medication (including the gel) in my eye, every hour. The timing made it difficult because the time just flew by and I would realize it 2 hours later. Thus, I set alarms. Yes, for every hour. Amer helped to remind me too, because sometimes the 22 year-old me can sure be a mak nenek.

Then came yesterday. Uncle Musa and me beat the jam from Shah Alam to TTDI, and I came rushing in and sat down with a thumping heart. 10 minutes of waiting and 5 minutes of (non) treatment later, I was done. My next checkup will be in 6 weeks' time but for now, Dr. Chua gave me the green light to wear my contacts again. I never celebrated Christmas, but I felt like that was my designated present this year. But of course, I know without Allah's willing, this would never happen :)

So yes, I can finally get my hands on contact lenses again BUT with exceptions, no doubt. I can no longer wear monthly disposable contacts, only daily ones. And to people who are aware, it's not cheap. So I will only be wearing them from time to time or on special occasions. But who cares, I am able to wear them again! Alhamdulillah :)

For those of you who are fortunate to have 20/20 vision, do be grateful and don't read books in the dark or watch the telly too close. Take care of them because you'll never know what might happen.

p.s: This post was inspired by Azie, who told us about her eye story too ;) Oh but no Azie, unfortunately I haven't found anything to lessen our nearsightedness. Guess we just have to live with what we have :)

reading through your own experience wearing lens makes me do not want to wear it. Recently, my eyes become so itchy n I dont know why. May be it's due to hours spend in front of the lappy and BBMing during dark kot. Now I am scared :(

Oh wani, don't be! i think wearing glasses is the safest thing to do. contacts are okay, it's just that we have to be extra careful. hygiene is very important and if you have that covered, i think wearing contacts will not be a problem :)
